TURANGI TO THE TONGARIRO CROSSING

Turangi is a great place with many activities that you can enjoy, such as white water rafting on the Tongariro River, mountain biking, hot pools and more. The town has a relaxed vibe – there are no big crowds, yet there are plenty of quality places to eat, drink and stay.

In short it’s a great, but often overlooked base for a few days while you walk the crossing.

One of the main attractions of Turangi is how close it is to the Tongariro Crossing.

DRIVING

Turangi is very close to the Tongariro Crossing. You can stay at Turangi and drive to the Ketetahi car park. It takes approximately 25 minutes.

When you leave your car at the Ketetahi car park, a shuttle will take you to the beginning point of the Crossing. Find out more about the shuttle services here.

When you complete your one day trek, you’ll find your car waiting for you, just a ten minute walk away and you can drive back to Turangi.

BY SHUTTLE

If you prefer to shuttle, you can book with a local Turangi shuttle operator and they’ll pick you up from your accommodation, and drop you back at the end of the day.

The main disadvantage of using a shuttle service is that when you finish your trek, you may need to wait up to an hour for the next shuttle to pick you up.
