PARKING, TRANSPORT AND SHUTTLES

With up to 3,000 people on the crossing every day during peak season, it’s crucial to arrange secure car parking and a shuttle to get you to the start of the crossing.

HOW LONG DO YOU NEED?

It’s the question that gets asked the most – here’s a breakdown of how long you need for the crossing, and why there is no need to be stressed about it.

ACCOMMODATION

You’ll need to book accomodation for at least one night (but probably more) when you take on the crossing.  There’s lots of places can base yourself – discover the different options

WHAT TO WEAR

Forget about shorts, t-shirts and jandals, it’s important you bring the right clothing, as conditions are more extreme and change often.

STAYING SAFE

The Tongariro Crossing is the location of the most search and rescue operations in NZ.  There are some very simple ways you can reduce risks, stay safe and enjoy your experience.
